Gabrielle Sandelmann, age 99, of Gibsonia, formerly Shohola, PA died on January 9, 2014. She was born in Bamberg, Germany on March 23, 1914 to the late Konrad and Magdalena Klauer. She and her late husband Henry Sandelmann owned and operated Sandelmann's Shoe Store in Shohola for 30 years. Gabrielle was an accomplished seamstress and gardener. She grew and arranged flowers for St. Ann's Church in Shohola for many years. She was a faithful communicant of St. Richard's Church in Gibsonia where she was a member of the Blanket Ministry, and she retired from St. Richard's Gardening Team at age 90. She is survived by her daughter, Carole (Kenneth Keeley); granddaughter, Melissa (Christopher Klemek); grandson, Douglas Keeley (Sabrina); and two great-grandchildren, Abraham and Madeleine Klemek. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on January 13, 2014, 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Shohola, PA.
Helen Rose Schadt of Eldred, a housewife and 32-year area resident, died Sunday, May 2, 1999 at home. She was 68. Daughter of Frank Golemboski and Sophie Boreck Schadt, she was born April 21, 1931, in Florida, NY. She was the widow of Alexander Schadt. Survivors include three sons, Stephen of Astoria, Allan and Timothy, both of Eldred; a sister, Madeline Keller of the state of Florida; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; nieces and nephews. Stephen Donald Schadt of Eldred and Astoria, owner and florist for "Gifts for the Giver" in Astoria and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, January 11, 2000, in Eldred. He was 47. Son of Alexander and Helen Golembozki Schadt, he was born September 5, 1952, in Unionville. He was a member of the Excelsior Sportsman Club in Eldred. Survivors include two brothers, Allan and Timothy, both of Eldred; four nieces; one nephew; and many loving friends from Astoria. Visitation was held at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville. Mary E. Schellhase of Walker Lake, Shohola, died at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ, on Monday, May 25. She was 73. Daughter of Charles and Helen Mahon Norton, she was born August 10, 1924, in Archbald, PA. Survivors include her husband, William E. Schellhase, at home; a daughter, Mary Tackaberry of Hamburg, NJ; four sons, William E. Jr. of Upper Saddle River, NJ, Robert J. of Tom's River, NJ, Richard of Union, NJ, and Charles of Miami, FL; and 13-grandchildren. William E. Schellhase, 86, of Shohola, PA passed away at Belle Reve Senior Living Center on March 15, 2012. He was a retired maintenance engineer for the Veterans Administration in East Orange, NJ and a U.S. Army World War II Veteran. The son of the late William and Jane (Whitehouse) Schellhase, he was born in Orange, NJ on March 21, 1925. He was married to the late Mary E. (Norton) Schellhase on February 15, 1947 in West Orange, NJ. Survivors include his daughter Mary Schellhase of Hamburg, NJ; two sons Robert J. Schellhase of Toms River, NJ, Richard Schellhase of Union, NJ; sister Madalyn Casey of FL; thirteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Vincent E. Schields, a resident of Shohola, died on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. He was 76. The son of Emil John and Irene (Haas) Schields, he was born August 19, 1928 in Port Jervis, NY. Schields was a retired postmaster with the U.S. Post Office in Shohola and a member of St. Ann’s Church in Shohola. He was a lifetime member of the Shohola Volunteer Fire Department and of Eckert-Haupt VFW in Lackawaxen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (McKean) Shields; one son, Thomas and his wife Lynn of Tarrytown; one daughter, Patricia Lang and her husband Andy of St. Cloud, FL; one sister, Arlene Yoerg of Port Jervis, NY; three grandchildren, Ian, Collin and Cami; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at St. Ann’s Church in Shohola with the reverend Thomas Petro officiating. Mary A. Shand, a homemaker and longtime resident of Barryville, died Thursday, September 1, 2005 in Wilmington, N.C. She was 86. Daughter of the late William and Margaret Raynis Gerlis, she was born November 12, 1918 in Queens, N.Y. She was a member of St. Ann's R.C. Church in Shohola, Pa. The widow of James A. Shand, who predeceased her on August 14, 1976, she is survived by one son, James Shand and his wife, Ann, of Westtown; two daughters, Mary Ellen VanLear and her husband, George, of Hampstead, N.C., and Joan VanBourgondien and her husband, James, of Stamford, Conn.; grandchildren: Melissa Joyce, Gregory Yepez, Renee Shand, Peter Shand and Joseph Shand; and great-grandchildren: Nicole Yepez and Lila Faye Joyce. Stanley P. Sieja of Glen Spey, proprietor of Stanley Sieja Construction in Glen Spey and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 55. Son of Walter S. Sieja and the late Mercedes "Pat" Nolter Sieja, he was born February 15, 1945, in Brooklyn. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Veronica Simonson of Lackawaxen, PA died February 7, 2008 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Simonson. Born in Bloomington Township, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Smith Whritenour. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Shohola, PA. Surviving are a brother, Roger; and a sister, Pauline, both of West Milford, NJ. Also preceding her in death were two brothers and five sisters. Frances Sobolewski of Narrowsburg, a retired dental assistant and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. Frederick Staehle died on March 3, 2015 following a long illness. He was 83. Fred was born on May 29, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, New York to Anne Byrne and Frederick M. Staehle Frederick served on USS LST 742 for the US Navy in the Korean war, receiving the Korean Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal. He is a retired executive from BP Oil company. Frederick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Paul DeGiacomo, daughter and son-in-law Diane and John Gillooly, sister Mary Jane Burke, and four grandchildren.

Virginia volunteered for the Pike County Area Agency on Aging, helping in many ways including delivering meals on wheels. Delanoy of White Plains, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, William T. and Robert E. Delanoy and two sisters, Irene E. Ponsch and Kaye M. Reagan. Mrs. Dorothy Barker Sulzbach, a longtime resident of the Highland Lake area, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 91. The daughter of the late Harry Barker and Edith Atty Barker Conover, she was born September 3, 1912 in Broadalbin, N.Y. She was married to the late Harry C. Sulzbach for 40 years, with whom she opened and managed the Highland Lake Sports Shop and Marina for many years. Dorothy was a schoolteacher and librarian in the Eldred Central School System for 35 years. In retirement, she was a member of the Eldred Board of Education, and a trustee and volunteer at the Sunshine Hall Free Library in Eldred. She was also a member of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Shohola, Pa., the Highland Lake Fire Dept. Auxiliary and NYS Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her son, Peter W. Sulzbach and his wife Elaine of Highland Lake; three grandchildren, Sean Sulzbach and his wife Tami of Brick, N.J., Heather and her husband Ron Tamol of Charlotte, N.C. and Trevor Sulzbach and his fiancée Lani Britten of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Nicole Tamol, Blaise Tamol and Sean Michael Suzlbach; and many nieces and nephews.
