Eleanora "Lee" Palmer, a retired Secretary for A.K.C. Kennell Club in Manhattan, N.Y., and longtime resident of Barryville, died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Bethany Village, Bethany, Pa. She was 91. The daughter of the late William Post Alston and Eleanora Seibert Parker, she was born March 27, 1914 in Queens, N.Y. She was the widow of Richard Earl Palmer. Lee was a member of St. Ann's R.C. Church in Shohola, Pa.; the Rosary Society of St. Ann's Church; member of the North Shore Animal League; the Ladies Auxiliary of Eldred American Legion Post #1363; member of the American Cancer Society, fundraising; and member of The Salesian Missions, New Rochelle, N.Y. She is survived by two sisters, Hazel Iasiello of Kingston and Shirley Scarano of Crystal River, Fla.; one brother, William Parker of Canajoharie, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews, including Gary Eckhart of Barryville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's R.C. Church, Shohola, Pa. with the Rev. Philip Rayappan officiating. Richard Earl Palmer, lifelong resident of the area, died November 8, 2003 at home. He was 92.
The son of the late Earl King and Catherine O’Grady Palmer, he was born January 21, 1911 in Barryville. He was a retired civil engineer for 41 years with Sullivan County Department of Public Works. He was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church and the Lackawaxen Missions, Shohola, PA; former town justice for the Town of Highland for 16 years; member of the New York State Magistrates Association; first dwelling ordinance enforcement officer for the Town of Highland; six year retired member of CSEA; veteran of WWII in the US Navy with the 5th Naval Battalion (Sea-Bees); member and past commander of the Sylvan-Liebla American Legion Post #1363 and served many years as a volunteer with the Ambulance and First Aid. He was also a member of the Yulan Fire Department, honorary and life member and past president and treasurer of the Eldred Mountain Stream Rod & Gun Club, and member of AARP. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Eleanora Alston Palmer, at home; and one nephew, Gary Eckhart of Barryville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on November 12 at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, PA. Interment was in Montoza Cemetery, Barryville. Paterson of Shohola, PA, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 at Osprey Ridge Healthcare Center, Carbondale, PA. She was 84.
The daughter of the late Wilfred and Effie Schmidt Hansen, she was born in Jersey City, NJ on March 15, 1926. A family statement reads, in part:” Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to feed the animals and was called the “Deer Lady.” She had a good heart and will greatly be missed. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert Paterson; children Patricia Terranova and husband Ralph of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, Joseph Krywicki and wife Aida of Lodi, NJ and Cheryl Paterson of Kingston, PA; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Paterson, of Shohola, PA and longtime resident of the area, passed away on Friday Feb. 17, 2012 at Manor Care, Kingston, PA. He was 78 years old.
The son of the late Robert and Gladys Jacobus Paterson, he was born in Jersey City, NJ on March 26, 1934 Robert served in the United States Navy. He was a retired supervisor for a trucking company. He was a member of St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Shohola, PA. He was married for 45 years to the late Dorothy Hansen Paterson. A Family statement read” Robert was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Like his late wife, he loved to feed the animals. He liked to build model ships, loved bowling and enjoyed music. Ines Maria Perris of Shohola, Pa. and 26-year resident of the area died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. She was 85. She was born March 15, 1920 in Begavaja, Puerto Rico the daughter of the late Rufino Sierra and the late Maria Santo Arroyo Negron Molina. Ines worked as a Butcher for Pitchell Brothers in Bronx, N.Y. She was a member of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Shohola, Pa. Surviving are her husband of 53 years Pandilis Perris whom she married in 1952 in the Bronx at home; daughters: Penelope "Penny" Hines and her husband Dennis of Greeley, Pa. and Milagros Salvato and her husband Bob of Honesdale, Pa.; 6 grandchildren: David "Chris" Rosado, Jon J. Rosado, Penelope Ines Cluxton, Dennis W. Hines, Adam Salvato, Justin Salvato; 8 great-grandchildren: C.J., Ciara, Tyler, Michael, Andrea, Anthony, Zoe, Anthony; also several nieces and nephews. Dr. John Anthony Petkus, beloved husband of Elizabeth Anne, passed graciously into eternal rest on April 18, 2006 at the age of 91. "Doc", as he was affectionately known by friends, was born in Brockton, Mass. on March 30,1915 to Adam and Ursula Mazeika Petkus. He received his B.A. from Boston College and his Doctorate from Hahnemann Medical School, Philadelphia, Pa. He interned at Good Samaritan Hospital, Allentown, Pa. prior to opening a family practice in Shohola, Pa. His medical practice was diverse and challenging, a model reminiscent of simpler times. In his private practice he provided obstetrics, delivering over 600 children, general family practice, where he was reknown as an excellent "stitch" and "bone" man, as many local residents who still carry his handiwork can verify, as well as an anesthesiologist at Callicoon Hospital, Callicoon, N.Y., Sunnyside Hospital, Port Jervis, N.Y., and Mercy/Saint Frances (Bon Secours) Port Jervis, N.Y. Doc retired from practice in 1993 and enjoyed retirement in Sun City Center, Fla. with his wife, Betty. He was an avid golfer, who garnered his first hole-in-one at the age of 86, as well as a seasoned licensed pilot with a passion for his planes and flight. He is remembered as a decent, gentle individual who devoted his life to serving his community. He was a devoted and loving husband and a compassionate and considerate father, whose entire family is gratefully honored for his continued love as a husband, father and friend. Eric D. Pollard, age 97 of Barryville, NY passed away Friday, September 4, 2015, at home with his family by his side. He was born on November 30, 1917 in Manchester, England, the son of Thomas Sr. and Lilly Roscoe Pollard. Eric was predeceased by his wife of sixty-seven years, Iris Hissey Pollard who passed away last year at the age of 95.
After Eric's childhood immigration to the United States, he was raised and schooled in Wakefield and Ramsey in Upper Michigan where he met his beloved Iris on a tennis court and were married. He helped build the main highway from upper Michigan to Detroit where he relocated before serving our country as a decorated soldier in the US Army during World War. Returning from the war he was employed at General Motors in Detroit and worked his way up to General Manager at Detroit Transmission. He enjoyed an early retirement and traveled the states camping, which included a snoring buffalo under their camper with the herd standing by! Eric was an avid boat and fisherman on the Great Lakes which included the excitement of flipping his sailboat, mast upside down, for fun! He loved the outdoors, excitement and adventure. He was an industrious and a skilled builder and wood craftsman. He built three homes, helped repair churches, instrumental in the construction of a Lion's Ilan and piping in water lines to Harsens Island where he and iris initially retired. When Eric and Iris relocated to Sebastian, Florida, his drive for community improvements and service continued. He also developed a talent for oil painting, clock making, loved making music on his violin, when he could conjure up an audience! For the past ten years Eric and Iris resided with their daughters, enjoying the beautiful, peaceful atmosphere of family life in the woods and all it entails. He helped take care of his beloved wife and was at her bedside when she passed. Eric was a generous man who loved his family, friends, church and country. He had an acute sense of English humor, often only detected by a slight grin he would try to hide or the twinkle in his blue eyes! Eric is survived by his two daughters, Carolyn Gausden and Sandra Doe of Barryville, his lovely sister Mary Cooprider of Garden City, MI, grandchildren Kenneth Doe and wife Jean of Sparrow Bush, NY, Nadine, Brent and his wife Adrianne Gausden of CA. and several great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Pollard Jr. Eric brought an abundance of joy and happiness to his family, friends and community. He left us with many great stories to tell and fond memories. He had a passion for living life to the fullest. He taught honesty, integrity and moral principles, perseverance, community service and love of fellow man! He will be missed. Irene Elizabeth Ann Ponsch of Shohola, a home health aide who worked at the Pike County Center for Developmental Disabilities, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000. She was 65.

Son of James P. and Eva Fischer Purcell, he was born on February 26, 1920 in Corona, Queens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a first lieutenant during World War II and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the American Legion; the Yulan Fire Department; a lifetime member of the Lions Club; and a pitcher for the Yulan Braves baseball team in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Survivors include his wife, Gladys at home; two daughters, Kathleen Beard of Jacksonville, FL and Virginia Lane of Freeport, ME; three sons, James of Barrington, RI, Edward T., Jr. of Dover, NH and Timothy of Sarasota, FL; three brothers, John E. of Glastonbury, CT, James of Fripp Island, NC and Andrew of Alpharetta, GA; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
