It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Father Thomas J. Major, the beloved pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Dushore, on Dec. 6, 2024, while Father was visiting New York City.
Father Major was a faithful servant of God and a compassionate shepherd to his parishioners, leading with kindness, wisdom, and deep compassion. Father Thom served as Pastor at St. Ann’s Parish for twelve years and as Pastor of St. John Neumann Parish for nine years. His presence in the lives of all who knew him will be sorely missed. We ask all the faithful of the Diocese of Scranton to join with the people of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in praying for the repose of the soul of Father Major, trusting in the mercy and loving embrace of our Lord Jesus Christ, who promises eternal life to all who follow Him. We also extend our deepest sympathies to Father Major’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his ministry. In the coming days, we will provide further information about funeral arrangements and how parishioners can come together to honor Father Major’s life and ministry. In the meantime, we ask for continued prayers for his soul, for his parish community, and for all who are affected by his loss. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. |
