Richard R. Ranker
Richard R. Ranker, of Shohola, Pa., a retired accountant and a 15-year resident of the area, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Bon Secour Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 79. The son of the late Anthony and Gertrude Dolan Ranker, he was born July 20, 1925 in Summit, N.J. He was married to Geneva Martin Ranker for 54 years. Richard was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp. having served as Staff Sergeant during WW II. He was a member of the 29th Bomb Group having flown over Guam. He received three Bronze Stars. A family statement reads, "Richard was a loving and devoted husband. He loved his dogs, nature and living in the mountains in Shohola." Survivors include his wife, Geneva at home; two nieces, Joan Abery and her husband Donald of Wyalusing, Pa. and Patricia Smith and her husband Malcolm of Summerville, Ga.; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Ranker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 12 noon at St. Ann's R.C. Church in Shohola, Pa. The Rev. Thomas Petro will officiate. Burial will be in German Hill Cemetery, Shohola, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pike County Humane Society, 186 Lee Road, Milford, PA 18337. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville, N.Y.
