Eleanora "Lee" Palmer
Eleanora "Lee" Palmer, a retired Secretary for A.K.C. Kennell Club in Manhattan, N.Y., and longtime resident of Barryville, died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Bethany Village, Bethany, Pa. She was 91. The daughter of the late William Post Alston and Eleanora Seibert Parker, she was born March 27, 1914 in Queens, N.Y. She was the widow of Richard Earl Palmer. Lee was a member of St. Ann's R.C. Church in Shohola, Pa.; the Rosary Society of St. Ann's Church; member of the North Shore Animal League; the Ladies Auxiliary of Eldred American Legion Post #1363; member of the American Cancer Society, fundraising; and member of The Salesian Missions, New Rochelle, N.Y. She is survived by two sisters, Hazel Iasiello of Kingston and Shirley Scarano of Crystal River, Fla.; one brother, William Parker of Canajoharie, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews, including Gary Eckhart of Barryville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's R.C. Church, Shohola, Pa. with the Rev. Philip Rayappan officiating. Burial will be in Montoza Cemetery, Barryville, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldred American Legion Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Eldred, NY 12732, or to St. Ann's R.C. Richard Earl Palmer
Richard Earl Palmer, lifelong resident of the area, died November 8, 2003 at home. He was 92.
The son of the late Earl King and Catherine O’Grady Palmer, he was born January 21, 1911 in Barryville.
He was a retired civil engineer for 41 years with Sullivan County Department of Public Works. He was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church and the Lackawaxen Missions, Shohola, PA; former town justice for the Town of Highland for 16 years; member of the New York State Magistrates Association; first dwelling ordinance enforcement officer for the Town of Highland; six year retired member of CSEA; veteran of WWII in the US Navy with the 5th Naval Battalion (Sea-Bees); member and past commander of the Sylvan-Liebla American Legion Post #1363 and served many years as a volunteer with the Ambulance and First Aid. He was also a member of the Yulan Fire Department, honorary and life member and past president and treasurer of the Eldred Mountain Stream Rod & Gun Club, and member of AARP. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Eleanora Alston Palmer, at home; and one nephew, Gary Eckhart of Barryville.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on November 12 at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, PA. Interment was in Montoza Cemetery, Barryville.
