Kenneth Robert Morton
Mr. Kenneth Robert Morton of Shohola, Pa., a retired vice president with Merrill Lynch, New York City, and 13-year resident of the area, died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and family Wednesday, February 6, 2002. He was 74. The son of the late James A. and Lillian C. Vogel Morton, he was born October 15, 1927, in Brooklyn. He married Elizabeth Alice Brunner Morton on April 23, 1949. He graduated Newtown High School, Flushing, in 1945. He then joined the Army. As a sergeant, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 8964, Woodcliff Lake, N.J.; Marsh-Kellogg American Legion Post No. 139, Milford, Pa.; St. Ann's R.C. Church, Shohola, Pa. and Senior Citizens of Mast Hope, Pa. He was an avid softball player to the age of 62 and bowled at PJ Bowl, Port Jervis, in the Tuesday afternoon Senior Friends League and Wednesday night for the VFW Post 161 team. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Alice Brunner Morton at home; two sons, Kenneth R. Morton Jr. of Goshen, and John J. Morton and his wife, Jane, of Wurtsboro; four daughters, Christine Carmack and her husband, Ed, of Warwick, Mary Quick and her husband, John, of Goshen, Elizabeth Teague and her fiancee, Larry Rada, of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Kathleen M. Garavaglia and her husband, John, of Royal Oak, Mich.; a brother, James A. Morton, of St. Petersburg, Fla., two sisters, Ruth Heffernan of Queens, and Joan Wengert of Babylon; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, February 8, at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Route 97, Barryville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 9, with a Mass of the Resurrection at St. Ann's R.C. Church, Shohola, Pa. with the Rev. Michael Quinnan officiating. Burial will be at St. Ann's Cemetery, Shohola, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann's R.C.Church, Shohola, Pa. 18458.
