John J. Maher
John J. Maher of Barryville, an assistant secretary for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 62 years of age.
The son of the late John J. and Maryann Breingan Maher, he was born March 16, 1941, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Maher was a member of St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Brooklyn and St. Ann's R.C. Church in Shohola, Pa. He was active with the Boy Scouts for over 30 years and served as Scout Master of Troop 296 in Brooklyn for 10 years. He was also a social member of American Legion Post #27 in Brooklyn.
In a family statement, it was said, "John was a very loving husband, wonderful and caring father, brother and grandfather. He was dedicated to scouting and encouraged many boys to become Eagle Scouts. He also enjoyed playing golf in his retirement."
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary "Bonnie" Bonfiglio Maher, at home; a son, John J. Maher III of Brooklyn; a daughter, Theresa Mondelo and her husband, Nicholas, of Harrison, N.J.; a sister, Margaret Dowd of Jackson, N.J; a grandson, Nicholas Mondelo III; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the McLaughlin & Sons Funeral Home, 9620 3rd Ave., Brooklyn, on Friday from 2-5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Patrick's R.C. Church, 4th Avenue and 95th Street, Brooklyn.
Burial will be made in Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
