EXTRA ORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST Ministers are trained to assist the priest in the distribution of the Body and Blood
of Christ during Communion and in the purification of the Sacred Vessels after
Mass. Many individual's first response when asked to be an Extraordinary
Minister is "Oh no, not me, I could never". Usually it is not
an issue of competence, but more often, they do not believe they are worthy. Our faith tells us we
were made whole by our baptism and are full heirs with Christ. Who among
us has the power to undo what God has done? True, we do need a sense of
humility about ourselves. Nevertheless, if we are worthy to receive
Communion, we are then also worthy to be Ministers of Holy Communion.
This ministry is for Confirmed Catholics, who are at least 18 years old and in
good standing with the Church. LECTORS The cycle of readings used in liturgy directs us on a journey of faith. Lectors are our storytellers on this journey, proclaiming the scripture in a way that reminds us God's Word is alive here and now. The ministry of Lectors brings the Word of God alive to the assembly. By proclaiming the Word the lector reminds the assembly of God’s love and “rouses” them to do his will.
Time commitment for this ministry includes a brief training session as well as preparation time at home before reading. Lector Workbooks are provided to help you with your preparation. Time for this preparation varies according to a person’s experience, prayerful preparation for this ministry is important. Lectors should also arrive 15 minutes before the celebration of Mass to check the lectionary and to participate in prayer with other ministers of the day’s service.
