George Arthur Lippi, Sr
Rowland, Pa. —George Arthur Lippi, Sr., 89 of Honesdale and formerly of Rowland, PA died Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Agnes Wood. The couple married October 12, 1946.
Born March 21, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late William and Rachel Manes Lippi. After graduating high school, he joined the US Army Air Corps, and attended St. John's University. He became a pilot and served as Major during World War II. Later he worked for the New York City Police Department where he was a detective for 20 years. After retiring from NYPD, he and his wife moved to Suffern, NY where George managed a graphic art studio in New York City. In 1987 George and Agnes retired to their summer home in Rowland, PA.
George was a man of many traits and enjoyed masonry work, art and sculpting. George was of the Catholic Faith and attended St. Ann's Catholic Church in Shohola. He was a big New York Yankees fan; GO YANKEES!
Also surviving is his son George Lippi, Jr. of Greenwood Lake, NY; his daughters Fern Parent and husband Gus Benjou of Greenwood Lake, NY and Agnes Johnson and husband Michael of Honesdale; grandchildren Jessica Kelly, Georgia Brown, Sumara Shaw, Samantha Parent, Veronica and Lora Benjou, Alexandra Lippi and George Lippi III.
He was preceded in death by his son Francis Lippi and sisters Fern Watt and Wilberta Lippi.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Glen Dyberry Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Agnes M. Lippi
Agnes M. Lippi, of Honesdale, PA, passed away on September 17, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Greenwood Lake.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary O’Connor Wood.
She was married to the late George A. Lippi (2011).
A homemaker, Agnes formerly worked for a bank in New York City in the city’s first skyscraper. She was a parishioner of St. Ann’s RC Church in Shohola, PA and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of EMT’s in Lackawaxen, PA.
A family statement reads: “A grandmother to everyone who met her, she would love to have you in for tea and listen to Frank Sinatra. She enjoyed gardening in her yard.”
She is survived by her son, George Lippi of Greenwood Lake; her daughters: Agnes Lippi Johnson and her husband Michael of Honesdale, PA and Fern Parent and her husband Gus Benjou of Greenwood Lake; and her two brothers, John Wood of Mattituck, NY and Joseph Wood of Lords Valley, PA; ten grandchildren: Jessica Kelly, Georgia Brown, Sumara Shaw, Jessica Thomas, Alicia Lore, Samantha Parent, Veronica Benjou, Lora Benjou, Alexandra Lippi and George Lippi III; five great-grandchildren: Joseph Lippi, Marc Shaw, Jr., Liana Shaw, Kaden Brown and Alyvia Lore. She was predeceased by a son, Francis Lippi and brothers, Eugene Wood and Francis Wood.
Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 20th, at Holy Rosary RC Church, 41 Windemere Ave, Greenwood Lake, NY.
