James D. Kelty Sr.
James D. Kelty, Sr. of Narrowsburg, a longtime resident of the area, passed away quietly with his family by his side on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the age of 69.
The son of the late James F. and Mary Sauer Kelty, he was born in Queens on June 24, 1940.
James was a retired truck driver. He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne. He was married to Carol Sobolewski for 47 years, who survives.
A family statement reads: "James was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the open roads, fishing, hunting and boating with his family. He was a big part of the family. He will be greatly missed by all."
Survivors include his wife, Carol, at home; three sons: James D. Kelty, Jr., Christopher Kelty, and Patrick Kelty and his wife, Kelli, all of Narrowsburg; five grandchildren: Ayla, Colton, Lynzee, Chett and Lenae; his brother, Frederick Kelty; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 1, and from 9 to 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Harrison-Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 Route 97, Barryville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2 at St. Anns R.C. Church in Shohola, PA, with The Rev. Thomas Major officiating. Cremation will follow at Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA.
Carol A. Sobolewski Kelty
Carol A. Sobolewski Kelty of Narrowsburg, NY, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. She was 69. The daughter of the late Theodore and Frances Sobolewski, she was born in Queens, NY on February 16, 1943. Carol was a retired secretary for Sullivan County. She was the widow of James D. Kelty Sr who had passed away on November 28, 2009, they were married for 47 years. She was a member of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Shohola, PA.
A family statement reads: "Carol was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Carol was an avid reader and the grandchildren were shocked at the size of the books that she would read. She loved the ocean and taking walks on the beach. She loved animals and the great outdoors of Sullivan County. The most important thing was her family and espically her grandchildren. She will greatly be missed by all."
She is survived by her sons: James D. Kelty Jr., Christopher Kelty and Patrick Kelty and wife, Kelli all of Narrowsburg; grandchildren: Ayla Frazier and her husband, Logan, Colton Kelty, Lynzee Kelty, Chett Kelty and Lenae Kelty; great grandson, Evan Frazierand her brother, Theodore Sobolewski, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol is predeceased by husband, James, and her brother, Louis Sobolewski.
Friends are invited to call on Monday, May 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 SR97, Barryville, NY 12764. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's RC Church, Shohola, PA with the Rev. Thomas Major officiating. Cremation will follow at Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA.
