Dr. Donald E. Hinkel
Services will be held for Dr. Donald E. Hinkel, 86, of Milford, who passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Allied Services, Scranton. He was married to the late Florence M. German Hinkel for 59 years.
Born October 31, 1922, son of Edward G. and Freda Haas Hinkel in Woodtown, Shohola Township, Dr. Hinkel graduated from Shohola Elementary and Milford High School. He received his BS degree in Pre Veterinary Medicine from Penn State University, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania and conducted a veterinary practice in Milford. He served in the US Army during World War II.
He was elected Associate Judge of Pike County, elected Chairman of the Pike County Democratic Committee and a former member of the Milford Fire Department. He also was a life time member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks, lifetime member of the Marsh Kellogg American Legion Post #139 in Milford, lifetime member of the Port Jervis Knight of Columbus, and President of Hinkel Estates, Inc. He was a member of the Woodtown Game Club, Honorary member of the White Hunting Club and a member of the North East Regional Veterinary Association.
Survivors include: three children, Kathryn Sternburg and her husband Jon of Honesdale, Joanne Andree of Milford, Donald E. Hinkel Jr. and his wife Beth Povanda of Milford; five grandchildren, Megan, David and his wife Lynda, Eileen Andree, Rebecca and Joshua Sternburg; one great granddaughter, Juliet Andree; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 9, at 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 W Harford St. in Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann's Church in Shohola on Saturday Jan. 10 at 10 am with the Rev Thomas Major officiating. Burial will take place at Woodtown Cemetery in Shohola.

Florence M. Hinkel
Florence M. Hinkel of Milford, Pa. passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, N.Y. She was a member of the Cliff Park Womans Golf League, former member of the Port Jervis Country Club, and a member of St. Anns Church, Shohola, Pa.
The daughter of the late Thomas J. and Adeline (Zang) Gorman, she was born on July 23, 1921 in New York City. She was married to Donald E. Hinkel.
Survivors include her husband, three children: Kathryn Sternburg and her husband, Jon, of Honesdale, Pa., Joanne Andree of Milford, Pa., and Donald E. Hinkel, Jr. and Beth Provanda of Milford, Pa.; one brother, Thomas J. Gorman of Mattituck, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Megan, David, and Eileen Andree, and Rebecca and Joshua Sternburg; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anns Church, Shohola, on Thursday, December 15 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Philip Rayyapan will officiate.
Burial will take place in Woodtown Cemetery, Shohola, Pa.
