Edward M. Hess
Edward M. Hess, 84, of Shohola, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice of NEPA an affiliate of Regional Hospital of Scranton, following a short illness.
The son of the late Edward J. Hess and Elsie May Hess, he was born Oct. 11, 1927 in Shohola, and was predeceased by his wife Madeline "Cissy" Hess in 1999. Prior to his career as a builder, Ed served in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wonderful wife of seven years, Verna Velicky Hess at home; one daughter, Lisa North of Shohola; one son, Steven Hess of Shohola; five grandchildren: Jeff Miller, Stacey Beisel, Justin Hess, Jason Hess and Dakota Hess-Baker; two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Travis Beisel, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by
his brother, Harold N. Hess of Boswell. Another brother, Roger K. Hess and a daughter, Nancy Hess predeceased him.
A loving father, husband and friend, Ed enjoyed traveling, camping with his friends, and fishing with his grandson Dakota. He loved spending time with his family. His strength and spirit will always be an inspiration to his family and will be fondly remembered by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, on Tuesday, April 3 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Major officiating. Burial was to follow in St. Ann's Cemetery, German Hill, Shohola.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ed's memory to Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice, 746 Jefferson Ave, Scranton, PA
Madeline L. Hess
Madeline L. "Sissy" Hess of Shohola, PA, a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at home. She was 67.
Daughter of Edmund and Isabelle Kahle Kleinert, she was born February 19, 1932, in Greeley, PA.
Survivors include her husband, Edward M. Hess; a son, Steven of Shohola; two daughters, Nancy Miller of Greeley and Lisa Hess of Shohola; a sister, Ruth Hicks of Doylestown; a brother, Edmund Kleinert Jr. of Greeley; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Ann’s Church in Shohola. The Rev. Michael F. Quinnan officiated. Burial was at the convenience of the family.

Elsie May Hess
Elsie May Hess, German Hill Road in Shohola, died Monday,
April 23, 1990, at Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis.
A lifetime resident of Shohola, she was married to the late Edward J. Hess who preceded her in death in 1980. She was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Shohola.
Born on October 23, 1902 in Parkers Glen, Pa., she was the daughter of Emanuel and Lena (Hess) May.
She is survived by two sons; Edward M and Harold N., both
of Shohola. A third son, Roger K., died in 1988, She is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 26, at 10 a.m. from St. Ann's Catholic Church, with Reverend John O'Haire officiating the service. Interment, St. Ann's Cemetery.
Harold N. Hess
Harold N. Hess, formerly of Shohola, Pa., and of Boswell, Pa., died Oct. 4, 2017, at Laurel View Village, Davidsville, Pa. He was 88.
Son of the late Edward J. Hess and Elsie May Hess, he was born Oct. 11, 1928.
He was predeceased by his wife, Caroline Schields Hess, in 1986.
He was a member of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Davidsville, and St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Shohola. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
A prominent Pike County businessman, he was founder, owner, and president of the former Harold N. Hess Co., Westfall Construction Co., Milford Community Television, Hess Laundry and Dry Cleaning, Woodland Kitchens, and Hi-Land Gas Service. Prior to his business endeavors, he served in the U.S. Army and as the station master for the Erie Railroad in Lackawaxen, Pa.
Survivors include his daughters, Judith A. Hess of Breinigsville, Pa., and Deborah K. Potere of Roanoke, Va.; one granddaughter, Kristen N. Herchenrider of Pottstown, Pa.; grandsons, Brian T. Potere of Sterling, Va., and Ian N. Potere of Wendell, N.C.; three great-grandsons, Henry, Nathaniel, and Otto; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Edward M. Hess and Roger K. Hess, predeceased him.
