Charles R. Hartmann
Charles R. Hartmann of Eldred, a retired fireman for the New York City Fire Deparment and a 22-year resident of the area, died Friday, January 25, 2002 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 79. The son of Henry and Anna Mitchel Hartmann, he was born on June 15, 1922, in Woodhaven, Queens. Mr. Hartmann was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Tusten-Highland Post VFW, Eldred, the American Legion, Eldred; and St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, Pa. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, at home; one daughter, Jill Hartmann of Ashville, N.C., four stepchildren; one sister, Loretta Woodruff of Wappinger Falls; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2002 at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 28, at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, Pa. The Rev. David Cramer will officiate. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Shohola, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made to the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation, c/o Engine 66-Ladder 66, 21 Asch Loop. Bronx, NY 10475 or to the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home Inc., Barryville.
