John J. Gillen
John J. Gillen of Barryville, a retired graphic arts supervisor with CalTex in Manhattan, died Mon, May 8, 2000, at the Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 75.
The s/o the late John and Katherine Sullivan Gillen, he was b. Feb 1, 1925, in NYC.
Mr. Gillen had been a summer resident for many years and a resident for 16 years.
A U. S. Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was a member of the Tusten-Highland Memorial Post No. 6427, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Narrowsburg and a member of St. Ann's R.C. Ch in Shohola, Pa.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was loved and will be missed."
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bohmann Gillen, at home; two daughters, Joanne VonEssen of Massapequa and Maryann Frank of Concord, N.C.; a sister, Kathleen Richards of Forest Hills, Md; a granddaughter, Christina Frank of Concord, N. C.; & several nieces & nephews. A Mass of Resurrection was offered Wed at St. Ann's R.C. Ch in Shohola, Pa., with the Rev. Michael Quinnan officiating. Cremation was made at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg, Pa. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Ambulance ser, P.O. Box 63, Eldred, N.Y. 12732 or the Port Jervis-Deerpark Humane Society, Route 209, Port Jervis, N.Y. 12771.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville.
