John J. Dorney
John J. Dorney, a longtime resident of Shohola, PA, passed away at the age of 77, on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at home, in the arms of his loving wife.
Son of the late Thomas and Dorothy Coloe Dorney, he was born in Flushing, NY on February 12, 1935.
John served in the US Army during the Korean War. John was a retired restaurant manager.
He was a member of St. Ann's Church, Shohola, PA. He was married to Mary Agnes Wilson Dorney, who survives.
A family statement reads: "John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was very active in the community and his church. He was an avid golfer and organized many golf tournaments for different causes. In 2001 John and Mary Agnes worked for Hands Together Mission in Haiti. He loved to cook and could be considered a great chef. He always had a story and was known as the guru. John had a great sense of humor and considered himself a Cruise Director of Life. He had many loyal and good friends and will truly be missed."
Survivors include his wife, Mary Agnes; his eight children: John Dorney (Jean), Paul Dorney (Alice), Tom Dorney (Sue), Michael Dorney, Jeanne Chillianes (Tony), Patrick Dorney (Kris), Denise Stein (Jay), and Kathryn Dorney; two stepdaughters: Denise Riccio (Anthony), Karen Vasiadis (Paul); numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. John is predeceased by his infant sister, Dorothy; his two brothers: Thomas Dorney and Walter Dorney. He was a good friend of Bill W.
Friends are invited to call on Monday, December 17, 2012 from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a Prayer and Rosary Service at the Harrison Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 SR97, Barryville, NY 12719. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 12 noon at St. Ann's Church, Shohola, PA. Father Thomas Major and Father Paul Mullen will officiate. Cremation will follow at MacLennan Hall Crematory, Milford, PA. Burial of John's cremains will be buried in St. Ann's Cemetery at a later date.
